Denver, Colorado's capital, was established on November 22, 1858 when gold was discovered in the area. It was named after James W. Denver, Governor of Kansas Territory before Colorado was established as its own territory in 1861. In addition to mining, Denver also excelled as an agricultural center. It was a manufacturing hub for farming and ranching equipment, as well as, famous for its bakeries, breweries and meat packing companies.

The city has plenty to offer visitors. It has the nation's largest city park system with 200 parks within the city limits and 20,000 acres in the nearby mountains. Denver is home to many museums, theaters, sports arenas and other attractions. Some of these include the Denver Museum of Natural History (which also houses an IMAX theater), the Denver Public Library, the Colorado History Museum, the Denver Art Museum. Other entertainment can be found at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, the largest in the world under one roof with 8 theaters seating more than 10,000 people, and Red Rocks Amphitheater, a 9,000-seat arena carved out of massive sandstone boulders. Red Rocks has hosted musicians ranging from The Beatles to top symphony orchestras. Other arenas that house sports events and other forms of entertainment include: Coors Baseball Field, Pepsi Athletic Center, Invesco Field at Mile High, Six Flags Elitch Gardens Amusement Park and Ocean Journey Aquarium.

Another attraction is the city's 16th street mall. This outdoor mall, lined with shops and restaurants in the heart of the city, offers a romantic night on the town. Visitors can go for a carriage ride down the mall or dine in one of the many restaurants offering everything from Italian to Indian food.

Denver has plenty to offer visitors, from the arts to sports, to concerts at Red Rocks. The city also receives an average of 300 days of sunshine a year, and with the Rocky Mountains nearby, this helps facilitate outdoor adventures during any season.
