The town of Crested Butte, a registered National Historic District and turn-of-the-century Victorian mining town, got its start during the mining days of the 1800s. Today, Crested Butte is known as a 4-season resort town. Elk Avenue boasts an assortment of shopping: from boutiques to outfitters and high fashion western home decor to whimsical children's stores and galleries featuring original paintings and photography from many local artisans. The town is near mountain bike trails that take you over scenic passes and four-wheel drive roads to old ghost towns. Try fly-fishing in East River, Brush Creek, and Slate River. Lake Irwin is a leisurely fishing experience with rainbow and brook trout; the Roaring Judy Fish Hatchery is designated as Wild Trout Waters. Bring your golf clubs and play a round on the championship course. Crested Butte, in Gunnison County, serves as a hub for camping, lodging, activities and attractions along the West Elk Loop Scenic Byway (Colorado Highway 135). This 100 mile loop takes you through Gunnison, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, to Crawford and Paonia Reservoir State Parks, over famous Kebler Pass, and back to Crested Butte. Crested Butte offers nearly 1,600 skiable acres with the most double-black diamond runs in Colorado. Average snowfall each year is 300 inches.

From Denver International Airport take I-70 west, exit onto E470 and continue west, then take Highway 285 south to Fairplay then through Poncha Springs; head west onto Highway 50 up and over Monarch Pass. In Gunnison, take Highway 135 north 28 miles to Crested Butte.

From Colorado Springs take Highway 24 west, when it junctions with Highway 285 go south through Poncha Springs; head west onto Highway 50 up and over Monarch Pass. In Gunnison, take Highway 135 north 28 miles to Crested Butte.

Commercial air travel accommodations are handled by Gunnison County Airport. Please contact your preferred travel agent or airline for flight arrangements. Crested Butte is 252 miles southwest of Denver International Airport via US Highway 285 South.
